If you were born in the early 90's (or earlier), you will agree that much before the likes of Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, we had Karishma Kapoor ruling the fashion scene in Bollywood. She was not only the number one choice of directors but also, the fashion icon who had girls running to the nearest boutiques and parlours to come out looking like the queen herself! From hot pants to dungarees, from miniskirts to cargo pants, she did it all. Karishma Kapoor and her style through the 90's was a rage.

Fashion repeats itself every few years and we just realised how Karishma's outfits from the nineties fall right in line with the trends today! So we compiled a list of 6 outfits the Raja Hindustani actor wore that are still relevant today!

1. Velvet

Velvet was a much bigger trend in the nineties than it is now. From velvet princess prom dresses, to pants to sari blouses, Lolo rocked them all.

Velvet

2. Metallics

The ‘IT' girls of the nineties were obsessed with metallics as much as we are today! Karishma knew how to work these bold pieces like a professional.

Metallics

3. Oversized Shirts

Nineties were full of oversized shirts and mom jeans. Look at Karishma's multicoloured shirt that we would kill to own today!

4. Slip dress

You are not a fashion girl today if you do not have a couple of slip dresses sitting in your wardrobe. Needless to say, Karishma felt the same way about them!

5. Coordinates

In the movie Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge Karishma wore a ton of coordinates that we would proudly wear even today.

Also, the mesh detailing on the skirt (right) is everything!

6. Pastels

Karishma Kapoor brought pastel princess prom dresses uk to the fashion scene in a big way. Don't tell us you don't want that sweet lavender dress this summer?

Her crown jewels! Elizabeth Hurley, 51, looks regally racy as she flaunts her ample chest in VERY revealing gown on the set of The Royals

She plays a fictional queen of England in the sensationalist take on monarchy in The Royals.

But while she shares the same name as the the real-life Head of State, Elizabeth Hurley certainly doesn’t vintage prom dresses uk like her.

The stunning actress, 51, showed off her ample assets as she slipped into a very revealing white embellished gown, which she wore alongside a seriously bedazzled tiara.

Scroll down for video

Onset of her hit E! show alongside her onscreen daughter Alexandra Park, she shared the saucy picure, writing: ‘Tantrums and tiaras galore!’

The model/actress, 51, arrived in style at the annual event, which celebrates the best products on the market.

Rocking a royal blue in honour of her role as the monarch in TV show The Royals, Elizabeth slipped her sensational figure into a fitted chic dress, which showed off her toned arms and legs.

Being shown around the event by organisers, the brunette beauty looked in high spirits as she inspected the exhibitions on offer.

Be a true blue like Elizabeth in a dress by Dsquared2

$1375

When it comes to gorgeous dresses, Elizabeth Hurley has always been able to pick them.

She's got a tried and tested formula, sticking to designer labels like Versace (remember THAT famous safety pin dress?) and Dolce & Gabbana, but Dsquared2 is definitely one of her favorite brands in the business.

She looked as elegant as ever at a design fair in Berlin today, teaming a cobalt pencil dress with a classic pair of nude court heels. We love the striking blue hue and flattering ruched waist detail on this dress, plus a quick spin reveals the low cut tie back.

Elizabeth's exact dress isn't currently available online, but the full length version is up for grabs over at Farfetch (click right), where it's now reduced to half price. Hurrah!

Alternatively, we've found plenty of blue dresses to help you knock their socks off on your next night out.

She teamed her elegant midi-dress with a nude heel and a grey suede-look clutch.

It’s a rare stint in wintry country for the star, who is fond of a sunshine break.

Last week she spiced up her Instagram account with another sizzling bikini snap during the enviable getaway.

The eternal actress, 51, slipped her sensational figure into a slinky gold two-piece, which was from her own swimwear line, as she enjoyed her beachy surroundings.

The timeless beauty flaunted her ample assets and flat stomach in the tiny bikini which was held together with chain detailing.

Placing both of her hands on her hips, the Estée Lauder oozed sex appeal as she posed for the camera in front of the glistening waters – which was captured by her son Damian, 14.

Elizabeth wore the slightest slick of make-up and donned a pair of shades, while her brunette tresses ran free.

In another titillating snap in the same bikini from her Elizabeth Hurley Beach collection, the star oozed sex appeal as she cosied up to a palm tree.

Just last week, the British star illustrated she’s every inch the yummy mummy as she posed for a smouldering bikini snap in which she threw her arms in the air while giggling.

The Bedazzled actress worked her magic in front of the camera in a barely-there blue, hand embroidered bikini.

The bold colouring of the scanty two-piece acted to show off her golden tan while the low-slung bottoms and skimpy top flaunted her taut abs and perky cleavage.

The Royals star showed off her truly sensational frame as she was caught on camera by her doting son, who was the perfect photographer for the impromptu photoshoot.

Wearing her brunette locks tumbling around her shoulders in loose waves, Elizabeth posed with a bright smile spread across her youthful face.

Clearly enjoying her winter getaway to India, the Austin Powers star looked happy on the beach as she stood in front of the crystal clear ocean.

And cosying up next to a palm tree, Liz once again showed off her sensational physique, posing in a strappy gold triangle bikini.

In another snap, Damian – who is enjoying a glimpse of life in showbusiness himself after making his acting debut on The Royals in late 2016 – poked fun at his advancing height and joked he was overtaking his mother.

He wrote alongside the image: ‘Think it’s safe to say I’m taller .’

Liz’s sexy bikini snap comes just days after she posted a figure-flaunting throwback snap to her Maldives trip last year – in which she was seen parading around in a strapless nave one-piece.

The talented beauty highlighted her narrow waist in her Olympia swimsuit which accentuated her taut stomach as she playfully blew a kiss in a Boomerang video.

Her swimwear of choice continued to showcase her endless toned pins as the strapless detail exhibited her pristine decolletage as she captioned the snap ‘#takemeback’.

Liz left her long glossy mane cascade down her shoulders as she protected her peepers with a statement pair of oversized shades as she melted into her towel covered seat.

The film star appeared in high spirits in the snap as she relaxed among the idyllic scenery of Maldivian resort Cheval Blanc Randheli.

Liz’s sensational appearance comes after her son Damian – who she shares with American businessman Steve Bing – admitted he had crush on Cindy Crawford’s 15-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber as well as singer Selena Gomez.

‘We’ve gone through stages where he’s had crushes on all sorts,’ she explained to . ‘He had a Selena Gomez crush, which went on for a very long time.’

To which Damian added: ‘It’s still going on now!’

Most recently, Liz has shared the screen with her son on an episode of The Royals, as he took on the part of Prince Hansel in her popular E! drama.

The talented teen plays spoiled German monarch, Prince Hansel, who has begun a new career as a reality star.

He was an immediate hit with the audience, one viewer summing it up by saying: ‘Damian Hurley aka Prince Hansel is so fabulous! I like him already!’

The famed French restaurant Caviar Kaspia's New York pop-up, whose run ends this week, has seen its fair share of fancy events and fancy-evening dresses plus size uk patrons since it opened its Spring Place last December. But on the Monday of New York Fashion Week, the pop-up was not filled with the jewels and furs typical of its usual clientele but, rather, leather. And lots of it.

For its biannual fashion week dinner, Frame founders Jens Grede and Erik Torstensson took over the restaurant to celebrate the brand's fall collection, presented earlier in the evening. Gathering over baked potatoes topped with caviar were Frame's "friends and family," as Torstensson described the crowd, which included Rachel Zoe, Cass Bird, Jenna Lyons, Andrew Rosen, and lots and lots of models. Outnumbering the civilians in the room, the catwalk contingent included Doutzen Kroes, Emily Ratajkowski, Laura Love, Lily Donaldson, Andreea Diaconu, Carolyn Murphy, Jeanne Damas, Georgia Fowler, Erin Wasson, Anja Rubik, Angela Lindvall, Natasha Poly, and Toni Garrn. Whew.

"This is not a fashion week dinner—everyone here, we know," Torstensson said. "We design for the people that surround us, and as it happens, that includes models."

With such a genetically-blessed guest list, Torstensson and Grede would not just use any old place cards, right? No, at the Frame dinner, you found your seat thanks to the leather vest with your name emblazoned across the back draped over the chair.

"It's our fashion gang," said Torstensson. "Leather is cool—it has nothing to do with the collection, it's just a fun thing. We wanted to give everyone something they can wear outside of their big coats."

The motorcycle jackets come after last season's denim "Fashion Tour" jackets, which soon became ubiquitous on the streets throughout all four cities. "Our background is marketing, so the plan was it should take off," Torstensson said of the original blueprint. And by the looks of delight on the model's faces, it would seem stage two of total street style domination was a success. By the time the dessert of berries and creme fraiche hit the tables, Kroes, Donaldson, Love, and Damas had slipped into their vests and proceeded to take plenty of snaps in the restaurant's famed mirrored ceiling. Marketing experts, take note.

Victoria Beckham on Sunday unveiled a beautifully tailored collection of clothes designed to empower women in troubled times, joined by husband David, who is reeling from an email scandal, and their children.

David, the British cultural icon and football legend, sat front row with Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, in a blaze of flashing cameras after sending his wife a bouquet and card to wish her luck.

The leak of a series of expletive-laden emails in which he apparently raged about not receiving a knighthood have battered his squeaky-clean image at home and had threatened to overshadow his wife’s fashion show.

But fashion editors, buyers and fans braved heavy rain and a freezing New York morning for one thing only: a fall/winter 2017 collection of classic, wearable clothes made for the global woman.

As Beckham — one half of likely Britain’s most famous power couple — knows better than anyone, it was about keeping her customer happy rather than creating the most innovative fashion on the block.

There was a British feel with heritage fabrics and a colour palette inspired by a gentleman’s club — oxblood, navy and black — mixed with more feminine rose-beige, powder blue and lipstick red.

It was a look steeped in menswear — sharply tailored and oversized outerwear — given a sexy, feminine edge with chiffon and georgette frilled skirts, leather gloves worn to the elbow, and wedge and heeled boots.

There were also flat, masculine black shoes with a pointy toe and double buckle. The bag of the season was a sleek vanity-box.

“Never has there been a time where it is more important to empower women,” Beckham told reporters.

“It’s about making her feel strong and powerful,” she said, delighted to chat about the clothes, saying only about her family that she loved having them in New York.

The show was not a radical departure: as Beckham said herself, there was a familiarity to the collection, which showcased the craftsmanship of beautifully made clothes to offer a working wardrobe for the woman who can afford it.

Without explicitly referencing Donald Trump’s rocky first weeks as president and Brexit back home, she evoked the uncertain political times.

“There is so much going on at the moment in the world and I think that we have to be optimistic. We have to be positive,” she said.

“So what can I do to make my customer feel that? And like I said it’s just about really beautiful clothes and luxury and strength.”

“It’s always about empowering women,” she added. “I’m always influenced by menswear and how can I evolve that each season.”

Leading the charge was Emma Stone, who was rocking a Chanel Couture ensemble of a, sheer embellished dress over matching trousers. Pointy, pewter-hued heels and a cute pearl anklet completed the look.

IT’S A BIT EARLY TO SAY, but 2017 may be Solange’s year—a pair of much-anticipated twins notwithstanding. The younger Knowles sister is still raking in critical acclaim for her 2016 album A Seat at the Table, and now she’s landed her biggest cover yet, appearing on the March issue of Elle, on newsstands Feb. 21.

This being Solange, the feature photography by Terry Tsiolis puts her in some highly editorial fashion, including a ’90s-style all-white power suit by Céline, kimono-like draping from Pleats Please by Issey Miyake and a dramatic red Norma Kamali puffer on the cover. The interview by Salamishah Tillet, too, looks to be upfront and wide-ranging based on the quotes that the mag is teasing, from the challenges she faced after becoming a mother at 17 years old to dealing with feeling like the odd sister out growing up:

“My sister and Kelly [Rowland] were the same age, which is like a built-in best friend in the house; they were extremely close,” Solange recalls. “Writing felt like this insular thing that I could go back in my room and express all that I would observe, all the emotions that would arise. It felt like mine, my little thing.”

Elle is Solange’s second major magazine cover of 2017; she talked to Beyoncé for Interview’s January issue and landed a major career milestone with her first performance on Saturday Night Live in the same month.

Kate Middleton can run with the best of them, as she proved Sunday sprinting with Prince William and Harry at the London Marathon Community Track. But she appears to have a worthy competitor in Canada’s First Lady Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.

In her first cover interview with Fashion magazine, Grégoire Trudeau races through her many athletic pursuits from crosscountry skiing, snowshoeing and tennis to more adrenaline-rushing ones such as skydiving, ice climbing and underwater diving with her Prime Minister husband Justin Trudeau. While her interest in yoga and pranayama might be more expected of a mother of three, barefooting — as in waterskiing without skis — is more her speed. “You have to be at high speeds, and when you fall, it’s like falling on cement. It’s rough, but the sensation is amazing when you’re on your feet.” Grégoire Trudeau told editor in chief Noreen Flanagan.

Sophie Gregoire Trudeau on the March cover of Fashion magazine.

pics:plus size prom dresses

Despite having a great connection with Michelle Obama and meeting Middleton last year, Grégoire Trudeau said she is drawn to anyone who wants to shape the world and is ready to listen. “Even if you look at the planet, and you think it’s easy to be distraught and depressed, common goodness — human goodness — is very much alive, and it needs to thrive even more amid the chaos. We’re being called to rise up and raise our level of consciousness and connect with other human beings,” she said in the interview.

Seeing the cover images on set and speaking of her love for her husband weren’t the only prompters for teariness, Grégoire Trudeau also welled up at the National Gallery of Canada, talking about how her mother’s love shaped her life. And she sees how her own children — Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien — receive that kind of unconditional love. “Even when we have arguments — I mean, they drive me crazy sometimes; don’t get me wrong,” she told Flanagan.

Through her ambassadorship with Plan Canada’s “Because I Am a Girl” initiative, Grégoire Trudeau often shares a message of self-empowerment. “They feel the fakeness — from fake nails to fake hair to fake breasts,” she says. “We tell girls to be themselves, but then they have role models — sometimes too many role models — in popular culture who incarnate that kind of disconnectedness from oneself. We are taught to self-hate; we are taught to doubt. Our culture doesn’t help us recognize ourselves as amazing beings without changing ourselves.”

Choosing all Canadian designers for the shoot, the 41-year-old wore a strapless Lucian Matis jumpsuit. The March issue is due out in Canada Monday and for the first time at select Barnes & Nobles stores in the U.S. Feb. 28.

Grégoire Trudeau also spoke candidly about her battle with bulimia in her late teens and into her 20s, and her views about feminism. She boils down feminism to knowing the facts and wanting to do something about it. But she was less definitive about Fashion’s “State of the Sisterhood” survey in which 71 percent of more than 1,100 respondents said feminism is more relevant now than it was before Donald Trump was elected the U.S. president. Diplomatically avoiding comment, she said she has been “feeling a sense of urgency for 30 years and that progress — at least in Canada — is being made.”

The real takeaway from the interview was one that never made it to the printed page. Discussing what makes them feel grateful, Flanagan mentioned that she teaches conversational English to a group of Syrian women on Wednesday nights. The conversation sailed on to other subjects but before leaving Grégoire Trudeau told Flanagan she had to write a letter to her class. Tearing a piece of paper from the notebook of an assistant from the Prime Minister’s office, she wrote, “To Shakira and all the courageous women from Syria, Welcome to your loving home; Canada. I walk with you on this path, With gratitude always, Sophie xx…”

Like her husband, who is reportedly expected to discuss the success of Canada’s refugee policy when he meets with President Trump in Washington, D.C., Monday, Grégoire Trudeau has been vocal about Canada welcoming refugees.

Whether it’s part of your design scheme for an outdoor bash or a “just in case” rental while you cross your fingers that it doesn’t rain, there’s a whole lot more to tenting part (or all) of your wedding than just putting up a structure and proceeding with your plans. From styles and sizes to specifications for space, it turns out tents can actually be pretty intricate! But tenting your wedding doesn’t have to be a headache. We spoke with the pros from the Greenwich Tent Company to share the ins and outs of wedding tents.

The Basics

Tents for weddings come in three basic categories: Tension Pole Tents, Frame Tents, and Clearspan Structures.

Tension Pole Tents, including sailcloth (or Sperry) and vinyl (or Century) tents, have center poles that hold up the roof. They rely on a pattern of stakes and tie-downs to achieve stability. They also usually require less decorating. The fabric, especially for sailcloth tents, and poles are beautiful in their own right, so the structures can be left as-is.

Frame Tents (including clear and white top tents) and Clearspan structures have a frame that supports the roof, with an open space beneath the canopy. They are self-supporting, and can be weighted down if the ground does not allow for staking. Frame and Clearspan tents generally require interior draping to conceal the internal framework, which can increase the cost of the tent rental.

Space and Sizing

Only Clearspan tents can be safely installed without additional space for staking, as the stakes go directly into the base of the legs. All other tents require a clearance of between five and 10 feet around the perimeter to allow room for tie-downs and stakes.

Tents can be customized to almost any size, ranging from an intimate backyard dinner to a gala of 1,000. If you’re planning to have both dinner and dancing within the tent, you’ll want to allow for between 20 and 25 square feet per person. For dinner only (without a dance floor), you’ll need between 18 and 22 square feet per person. For example, a tent for 200 people with dancing would require a 46’ x 125’ sailcloth tent (with central poles) or a 40’ x 120’ frame tent (with an entirely open space beneath the canopy).

What Your Tent Company Needs to Know

When you decide to rent a tent, a representative from the company will come survey the site. They’ll measure the total available space and any grade change (if the space you’re tenting is sloped in any way), note the surface it will be on, and measure for any connecting canopies you’d like to install between tents or between a tent and a building. They’ll also look for overhead obstructions, such as tree branches or power lines, and indications of any underground utility lines. The tent company will contact public utility companies to have them mark their lines, but in the event of private utilities like private electric or gas and on-site sprinkler lines, it is the client’s responsibility to let the tent company know if there is anything in the vicinity.

Upgrade Options

When it comes to customizing and upgrading your tent, the possibilities are limitless. Any tent can be draped, whether it’s just the side poles or a full ceiling treatment. Flooring options range from artificial turf to hardwood plank and sisal carpet that rivals the interior of a beautiful home. Platform flooring can be leveled to adjust for even severe grade changes or dips in the ground beneath the tent. If you have beautiful views but are concerned about climate control, frame and structure tents can be fitted with glass walls to keep heat or cool air in. And of course, lighting is the most important factor in mermaid prom dresses up a tent. Many tent companies carry a limited selection of fixtures built specifically for their tents, while specialty lighting companies can really take it to the next level.

When to Book

Tent availability all depends on the date you’ve chosen for your wedding. During the busiest months, you’ll want to reserve your tent as soon as possible, as a last-minute booking may mean the tent company is completely sold out. Get a quote and discuss the equipment you’ll need as soon as you’ve chosen your date, even if it’s just in case of bad weather. You’ll need to pay a non-refundable deposit to hold the tent, and most tent companies need to know if you’ll be using the tent 24 hours before they’re scheduled to install.

Set-Up and Timing

Setting up a tent can take anywhere from a couple of hours to two weeks or more. Most backyard weddings, with a standard tent set-up, can be assembled and pitched in a day or two, though ideally you’ll want your tent set up four or five days in advance to allow time for the decor and rentals to be delivered and installed.

Safety First

Finding a trustworthy and reputable tent company is the most important part of tenting your event. Seek out someone who will take the time to talk you through the process, from securing the proper permits and surveying the site to sending detailed diagrams and providing proof of insurance. Don’t be afraid to ask for references and images of events with similar equipment. As they say, the proof is in the pudding!

Planning your wedding is stressful. Planning your wedding night shouldn’t have to be. The tradition of wedding night sex comes from a time when the wedding night was the first time a couple would spend the night together, so there was all kinds of pressure to make it perfect. Now that more and more couples are shacking up before the big day, the level of expectation may not need to be as high.

“Many couples place an inordinate amount of stress on wedding night sex, believing that if sex isn’t had that bad luck will plague the marriage,” says relationship expert Laurel House. “That pressure is unrealistic and even romance-killing.”

pics:princess prom dress

The weeks leading up to a wedding can be overwhelmingly stressful, especially for couples who choose to have big, expensive parties with hundreds of people. “Once the evening is over, the newlyweds are often absolutely exhausted and unable to give of themselves anymore. And if they do try to get intimate with their new till-death partner, the combination of stress of the day, too much food or booze, plus the pressure to perform can be simply too much to reach orgasm,” says House. “The best sex isn’t had when you ‘have’ to. It’s enjoyed when you are stress-less and able to fully let go, give, take, and consume each other!”

For those couples who do want to make wedding night sex a priority (and that’s ok, too!), a little planning ahead can go a long way. “You just need to decide: Are you really going to put all of your energy into the social ritual part of this at the reception, or are you going to put your energy into the two of you, and that’s a personal choice,” says Sex Therapist Dr. Holly Richmond. “Preparation will help with disappointment because you set your expectations.”

Whether it happens for you or it doesn’t, sex on your wedding night doesn’t need to be that big of a deal. The two of you have the rest of your lives (it’s official now!) to tear each other’s clothes off — it’s not worth obsessing over before, during or after the fact. Here, six brides share their personal experiences to tell you why.

Accidentally Took a Tylenol PM

“All my friends told me they didn’t have sex on their wedding nights, but I thought we would be the exception and packed all the lingerie I received at my shower. But once we got back to our hotel room, we put on sweatpants and counted the checks and cash [from our guests]. (I didn’t have a good plan for this because I didn't realize people were going to hand us envelopes full of cash like we were in The Godfather). After we were done, I called the front desk for a Tylenol (I threw out my neck from my 20,000 lbs. of hair extensions). They sent up a Tylenol PM instead, and I didn’t notice until after I’d taken it. Then I passed out. Game over.” –Ellen

We Were Way Too Tired

“There is so much stress and pressure of what happened that day, you’re too tired. Most people just go for pizza and go to sleep. And there’s pressure for sure — your parents invite friends and family that you have never met or care for, after smiling and being pleasant for hours you just want to relax and sleep. It has to be planned big time. Sure, you can leave the party extra early, but most people don’t do that because everyone wants to stay and dance.” –Gilda

Ranch Dressing > Sex

"Our room at the Beverly Hills Hotel was covered with rose petals from every rose from our ceremony, and I just remember walking through them in bare feet, ordering chicken fingers and french fries with ranch dressing and passing out.” –Cathy

Not in the Mood

“I think most people don’t have sex. We have sex all the time now, there is no need to have sex on your wedding night. No one wants to. You're exhausted and probably drunk and just want to pass the fuck out.” –Amanda

We Wanted to Enjoy the Party

"If you’re having sex on your wedding night, you’re doing it wrong. I wanted to enjoy the party that I had put so much into planning, I didn’t care if we both went home and passed out drunk." –Kara

And just so you know it is still possible for it to be great (even if it takes some planning):

“We had talked about it and planned ahead. I had brought it up and we both agreed that it was important to both of us. We planned out what were some things that we can do to make sure we make it to the wedding night, and he had it in his mind to make sure he didn't get wasted. We went back to the room and ripped each others clothes off, on the bed, off the bed, on the chair, on the balcony, all over the whole room. The whole day was so amazing, and we had all the emotions and all the feelings, and neither of us were too drunk. All the emotions of the day culminated in this crazy amazing sex” –Gina

Changes are coming to Michael Kors. In light of continued sales woes and weaker than expected third quarter sales, and paired with concerns that the company's efforts to reinvigorate its brand are taking much longer than expected, the New York-based brand has announced that it will reduce promotional activity across retail and wholesale channels in the U.S.

According to CEO John Idol, the brand will significantly increase digital marketing to further fuel its fast-growing ecommerce business globally. It’s impending cut-down promotional activity in retail and wholesale channels is expected to hurt net sales in 2018, says Idol, but such declines are expected to moderate in 2019.

Sales have been weaker than anticipated in North America and Europe and will continue in thein vein, according to the brand, at least partly due to fewer shoppers visiting malls. Sales will also be impacted by anticipated market volatility in Europe throughout the calendar year.

In addition to its shift in marketing – which Idol does not “believe any of our competitors are taking this level of stance as it relates to walking away from the promotional activity" – Kors says it plans to increase penetration of footwear in its most0visited stores. The company also plans to roll out a new online vintage prom dresses shop, which is scheduled to launch this fall; it is focused expanding its dresses and menswear divisions. Moreover, the brand is looking to invest in its online business and reduce supplies to department stores, which have been discounting heavily to bring back shoppers.

Despite the aforementioned goals, not everyone is convinced that the brand is headed for positive results in the near future. "As much as we believe that Michael Kors is headed in the right direction ... we maintain our view that it has much more work to do in reconnecting with customers who have been alienated by the overexpansion of the brand," Neil Saunders, managing director of research firm GlobalData Retail, told Reuters.

Before women like movie star Melissa McCarthy, Chrissy Metz of NBC’s “This Is Us” and Whitney Thore of TLC’s “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” became widely embraced personalities, Josefina Lopez wrote a play titled “Real Women Have Curves.”

Lopez’s 1994 comedy, made into a 2002 movie that marked America Ferrera’s film debut, is about many things. Its subjects include the fears of undocumented immigrants and the hard-to-shake unease of those now legal, the hardships of subsistence labor, dreams of a better future, thorny relationships and the camaraderie of women.

But the play, which marks the first professional production in the 43-year history of Main Street Players in Miami Lakes, also advances arguments that McCarthy, Metz, Thore and others embody: self-acceptance, pride and a shedding of limitations at any size.

pics:backless formal dresses

When “Real Women” was done in 2007 by the Women’s Theatre Project in Fort Lauderdale, Carbonell Award-nominated actress Vanessa Elise played Ana, a recent high school graduate with dreams of leaving her Mexican-American community in Los Angeles for college in New York and a future career as a writer.

Fast forward a decade to the show at the Main Street Playhouse, and with the help of aging makeup and a swath of gray added at her hairline, Elise is now playing Ana’s strong-willed mother Carmen. Her transformation is warm, moving and persuasive, not because of those external touches but because she’s such an engaging and authentic performer.

Staged by Elise’s fellow New World School of the Arts grad Tatyana-Marie Carlo, “Real Women Have Curves” features a five-woman ensemble, each actress adept at handling the script’s comedy and its occasional touches of pathos.

Carmen’s daughters, both played by New World grads, are the 24-year-old entrepreneur Estella and aspiring writer Ana.

Icela Marliese’s Estella starts out too frantic but grows even more so. Running a tiny business sewing $13-per-unit dresses that will retail for $200 at Bloomingdale’s, Estella is running behind on the latest order. She can’t get paid — nor pay her mother, sister and two other workers — until the dresses get delivered. Unlike the others, she’s still undocumented, so she keeps the doors and windows of her stifling mini-factory in a bad neighborhood tightly shut in case La Migra — agents from the Immigration and Naturalization Service — should come poking around. The result? A literal sweatshop.

Marcela Paguaga is the production’s Ana, narrator, feminist and writer-to-be. Looking a bit like Sarah Silverman, Paguaga communicates Ana’s youthful naivete and her forcefulness, yet she slips comfortably back into the ensemble when another character is occupying the spotlight.

In addition to Carmen and Ana, Estella employs Pancha (Rei Capote) and Rosali (Amber Lynn Benson). Pancha’s deepest sorrow is that she’s married but can’t have children, a matter she takes up in a prayerful lament to God, which Capote turns into one of the play’s most moving moments. Benson’s cheerful Rosali, the slimmest of the five, has taken to extreme dieting, leading to a sudden crisis.

The issues Lopez raises in “Real Women” are threaded organically through the play, which also makes plenty of time for the chisme (gossip) that gets the women through their long, sweltering days. There’s a running gag about the green mole Carmen keeps trying to push on her cringing family and coworkers. The play is in English, but the women’s conversation is peppered with Spanish words and expressions that add more flavor in bilingual South Florida.

Near the end of the show, the women — actresses of many shapes and sizes — boldly strip down to their undies. Pragmatically, the seamstresses are trying to cool off. But at a deeper level, they’re celebrating feeling free, empowered, accepted by the others and themselves.

Main Street Players has been building toward its switch from community theater to professional company for many years. Yes, some small technical glitches made opening night not quite flawless. But from the work of director Carlo and the design team (set designer Amanda Sparhawk, lighting designer Marcelo Ferreira, costume designer Angelina Esposito and technical director Dennis Lyzniak) to the performances of a strong cast, “Real Women Have Curves” makes for an engaging, impressive transition.

Despite the ubiquity of celebrities with political opinions, and celebrities on red carpets — civil disobedience on a step-and-repeat is still pretty rare.

But leave it to a porn star to buck the trend. On Saturday night, at the 2017 AVN Awards, a.k.a. the “porn Oscars,” held just off the Las Vegas strip at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, adult-film performer Jessica Drake brought her Trump protest to the carpet.

Drake — who has accused Donald Trump of kissing her without consent in 2006 and offering her $10,000 to be his date to dinner — walked the carpet last night in a gown made to look like a burned American flag, and a red clutch that read #notmypresident.

“When he said that anyone that burns an American flag deserves to lose their citizenship and be in prison, I got the idea to wear this pink prom dresses,” Drake told the Cut on the red carpet at the AVNs. “Obviously it is not an actual flag, but I want to get attention and to get people to think. If people are patriotic enough to be upset about what I’m wearing, then surely they are patriotic enough to know that the First Amendment gives me the right to wear it.”

Drake, who was nominated at the AVNs for Best Actress, arrived at the red carpet from the airport. She’d spent the morning in Washington, D.C., marching and attending a press conference alongside her attorney Gloria Allred, and three other women who had also accused Trump of sexual assault — Temple Taggart, Summer Zervos, Rachel Crooks.

“I marched for LGBT rights, black lives matter, the rights of sex workers, immigrants,” Drake said. “I think it is important that we hold the new administration accountable, and we really have to be on the ball with it, and this was a really great example, the potential in the situation, and that they will be heard.”

Shortly after the press conference, Drake joined the Women’s March on Washington, and told the Cut it left her feeling optimistic.

“The march was bigger than anything I have ever been a part of, and everyone was just really united and it was just so supportive and so kind and the march was so big and so promising,” Drake said.

Drake said the event gave her a chance to meet Taggart, Zervos, and Crooks, and discuss their own experiences and the harassment they have faced after coming forward with their allegations against Trump.

“We acknowledged our own individual experiences that are so related and so similar,” Drake said. “And I just thanked them, and said, I’m here for them if they ever want to talk, if it ever gets to be too much, we’re all really strong, and that you can only read so many shitty things about you on the internet before it bothers you.”

Trump has flatly denied all of Drake’s and the other women’s allegations. But Drake said Trump’s response to her allegations, in which he suggested that as a porn star it was not unusual to be grabbed by men, motivated her to protest.

“As a sex worker, to have him counter with, ‘Oh, she’s a porn star, I’m sure she’s been grabbed before,’ — like that makes it okay, and sex workers and porn stars can’t be assaulted. It was really harmful. I was really offended, and it is still one of the driving factors in what I’m doing today — to keep talking about it.”

When you are Diane von Furstenberg, known to one and all as simply DVF, this is how you recruit your new designer: During the interview, you hang upside down off a stately chintz sofa at London’s Claridge’s hotel while your potential hire, Jonathan Saunders, lies stretched out beside you. You chat for an hour, maybe two, perhaps three—because, really, who’s counting when you’re having fun? Ebullient, fearless, colorful (both aesthetically and temperamentally), and never given to play by the rules: Saunders and von Furstenberg have more similarities than differences. “Jonathan’s confidence in his vision is impressive,” she says. “And the phrase hands-on was invented for him.” No surprise, then, that he got the job—freeing up the label’s founder to take a step back to focus on her philanthropic endeavors.

pics:blue prom dresses

Last June, Saunders, who shuttered his own label in 2015, decamped with Justin, his husband-to-be, and his equally beloved Staffie-mix dog to live in a foliage-covered West Village town house. Every day he went to work facing the same question: How to reimagine DVF, the label, so that it could be heard in today’s cacophonous world, especially given the noise it has made with one proto-feminist sold-by-the-gazillions wrap dress that DVF, the woman, created way back in 1974? His answer: Turn up the volume. What Saunders has done is a mood-enhancing mix of intensely hued graphic- and floral-pattered silk, knit, and crepe de Chine, scissored and spliced every which way. It’s an homage to what the label has always stood for—“effortless, optimistic, and sensual,” he says—without being too referential or reverential; that iconic dress is still present, but he has given it an imaginative new slant, slyly hinting at its diagonal closure through the use of color blocking, or by placing two contrasting patterns side by side on the bias. “I love women; I love understanding how they feel about how they dress,” says Saunders. “You want that emotional connection.” Like I said, they’re very alike.

As a native of Tallahassee, Florida, Cash Hunter is a longtime fan of the hometown Florida State Seminoles. There came a time, however, when he made allowances to pull for the opposing side.

"I was never a big fan of Florida,'' he said. "But I was a fan of Tim Tebow. And I've been following the Tim Tebow Foundation since it started.''

That's a good thing since Hunter, an associate minister at Fayetteville Christian Church for more than three years, will be helping to lead Fayetteville's inaugural Night to Shine on Feb.10 in the church's multipurpose building.

And, after all, there's no room for rivalries in this endeavor. It's a win-win for all involved.

"In fact, we knew from the get-go that our church couldn't pull it off alone,'' Hunter said. "Our goal is to make this event bigger than just one church. We are just the host site.''

The event, sponsored by the nonprofit Tim Tebow Foundation, gives people with special needs the chance to attend a prom-like event.

There will be sparkly gowns, freshly shined shoes, corsages and boutonnieres, jewelry, makeup, special hairstyles, portrait sessions and, thanks to local businesses, overstuffed goody bags.

Every guest enters on a red carpet lined with cheering onlookers. Once inside, guests can have their hair and makeup done, their shoes shined and their corsages pinned. Then the dancing begins.

"I'm so excited,'' said Brittany Jackson Lockamy. She signed up to serve as a volunteer for the event and registered her sister Lindsey to attend. "She's been to little dances and things, but never to anything like this.''

Night to Shine, now in its third year, helps host at more than 200 churches all over the United States. One of those churches, San-Lee Chapel in Sanford, will serve as a host for a second year. San-Lee had 100 attend last year; that number has grown to 200 this year and will move to the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center.

Fayetteville hairstylist April Ann Burks is serving as a volunteer for the Sanford event, having recently hauled a load of glittery pink prom dresses uk to be used for the event.

"They have a place set up behind the church called Timmy's Closet,'' Burks said. "People can go in and pick out dresses, shoes, everything. I had no idea it was so big.''

Organizers for the Fayetteville event are still in need of dresses ahead of an event scheduled Sunday. That's when Night to Shine attendees can come select a special dress for the occasion.

"And any dresses that aren't used will be donated to another organization,'' Hunter said. "With prom season coming up, we're planning to pay it forward.''

Like all participating churches, Fayetteville Christian Church has been hard at work recruiting volunteers to serve as "buddies'' for the attendees assuring everyone has someone for dancing and having fun. Volunteers are still needed for a variety of duties, including doing everything from makeup to hair to the cha-cha.

Anniesa Hasibuan was the first Muslim and the first Indonesian designer to show the hijabs on the NY Fashion Week runway. Born in Jakarta, July 30, 1986, she is the wife of Andika Surachman, a young entrepreneur. After some time, Hasibuan began a new hobby that led her into the fashion world. Initially, she designed outfits for herself and soon began designing for close friends. In early 2015, Hasibuan ventured into the fashion world with her husband’s support. Her passion for fashion grew tremendously and very quickly.

She was eager to show her debut fashion collection on the runway in London, where her designs were welcomed warmly. To enhance her knowledge, she began taking fashion design courses there to enhance her career. Currently, Hasibuan is signed at the Indonesia Fashion Gallery in New York City. Hijabs are worn with trousers, skirts, occasion dresses, suits, kimonos, tunics and gowns. Her mix of fabrics, such as velvet with satin were remarkable. Her collection was very well received by a standing-room-only crowd. At NY Fashion Week shows held at Moynihan Station, Hasibaun’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection was magical, yet elegant. One after another, her ensembles were rich in fabrics and color and very glamorous.

Another designer, Eva Xu, showed her collection with a theme titled “All Comes From Nothing.” Her company Toutiao x ACFN, was founded in 2014. Xu earned her BFA from Tsinghua University’s Academy of Art and Design and her MFA at the School of Art Institute of Chicago.

In Chicago, she was mentored by contemporary artist Nick Cave. After her move to New York, she worked as a designer for fashion houses such as Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren. She created her company ACFN out of the desire to create a more personal womenswear line for creative lifestyles. “All Comes From Nothing” is a contemporary line that brings artist collaboration into minimal and urban shapes. The ACFN woman creates for life. For Xu’s customers, fashion is an accomplice, not a calling card.

Renee Minus White is the author of “Maybe My Memoir,” the story of an original member of The Chantels, the famous 50s female group, who recorded the hit “Maybe.” Her book is available at Rosedogbookstore.com, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play and Kindle.

All eyes were on the women of the Trump family as they arrived for President Donald Trump's inauguration and their elegant fashion choices did not disappoint.

Melania Trump chose a powder blue prom dresses online and matching coat from designer Ralph Lauren for the day's events. The incoming first lady paired the structured jacket with pointed stilettos and leather gloves to complete the monochromatic look.

President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania arrives for a church service on Donald Trump's inauguration day.

With her long locks pulled back in a sophisticated bun, Mrs. Trump's look is reminscent of what Jacqueline Kennedy wore for her husband's inauguration in 1961.

The suspense surrounding what the incoming first lady would wear for the events of Inauguration Day built over the last several months as several designers spoke out saying they wouldn't be willing to dress Mrs. Trump.

Most recently, designer Tom Ford spoke about declining the opportunity. President-elect Trump responded telling Fox and Friends, "[Melania] never asked Tom Ford, doesn't like Tom Ford, doesn't like his designs ... I'm not a fan of Tom Ford, never have been."

Others, including Tommy Hilfiger, were much more welcoming to the idea. Hilfiger even telling Women's Wear Daily, "I think any designer should be proud to prom dress her."

The first daughters both chose white for the swearing in ceremony. Ivanka Trump chose an asymmetrical Oscar de la Renta white jacket and tailored white pants with black pumps. She accessorized the outfit with a small a American flag pin and black leather gloves. It was her third ensemble from the designer in the past two days.

What will FLOTUS be wearing alongside POTUS during the swearing-in ceremony and at the inaugural balls?

Inquisitive American minds aren’t the only ones that want to know, since fashion, musical and cultural statements made on Inauguration Day are as important as the political statements made once voters selected Donald Trump and his missus, Melania, to replace Barack and Michelle Obama.

pics:evening gowns

The Presidential Inauguration Committee has chosen three official balls to be held at two sites on Inauguration Night: the Liberty Ball and the Freedom Ball at the Washington Convention Center in central Washington, D.C., and the Salute To Our Armed Services Ball at the splendid National Building Museum in downtown.

All of the balls are black tie, of course, with men in waist coats or tuxedos, which helps to explain why for centuries all eyes turn to the gowns of the first ladies to make a fashion statement.

The site that the inaugural commission selected for armed services salute makes a statement as well.

The National Building Museum is the actual site of the former Pensions Building, a facility whose personnel and design reflected its mission, which was to provide benefits for veterans, armed servicemen and their descendents — including the very women and children who they may have left behind.

Certain - and oftentimes differing - sects of the web collided and subsequently went into a collective tailspin after parts of a rumored Louis Vuitton x Supreme collaboration leaked earlier this month. Well, as of Thursday, Louis Vuitton confirmed the collab rumors - by way of its F/W 2017 menswear runway show, for one thing, and a pre-show interview between the house's menswear director, Kim Jones and WWD.

Under the creative watch of Jones - who took the helm of Louis Vuitton's men's division in 2011 - and with the cooperation of New York-based cult skatewear brand, Supreme and its founder James Jebbia, Louis Vuitton showed a lineup of F/W looks that incorporated Supreme’s bold red and white box logo branding. “You can’t have the conversation of New York men’s wear without Supreme right now, because it’s such a massive global phenomenon,” according to Jones.

Red leather duffle bags (which are expected to retail for between €1500-3000) and fanny packs (styled over the shoulder, of course) bear the famous Supreme graphic. To be exact, there are six styles of bags in the collection, including a backpack, duffle bag, messenger bag and fanny pack. They come in three different materials: red Epi leather, black Epi leather and a camouflage fabric.

Also in the mix: Scarves and bandanas that make use of both brands’ logos, and smaller leather accessories, such as LV x Supreme wallets and iPhone cases (these are said to retail around €300 and up), which were seen poking out of the pockets of denim Louis Vuitton monogram-printed shirts (something of a throwback to the denim bags that the brand showed during Marc Jacobs' tenure?).

Sure to be some of the most highly coveted items (aside from the more accessible goods, such as the key chains, pocket knives, pins, luggage tags, etc.)? The Louis Vuitton x Supreme steamer trunks and bespoke skateboards - which are bespoke and thus, not readily available for purchase, according to the brand.

The Making of a Master Collab

As for who came up with the idea for this master collaboration, one that arguably makes quite a bit of sense, given the widespread influence that high fashion brands take - especially as of late - from the street, it was actually Michael Burke, Louis Vuitton's chairman and chief executive officer. Not surprisingly, Kim Jones - a streetwear and skatewear afficiando - "didn't need much convincing," per WWD. Joining forces, he said, "was the logical response."

In fact, Jones has some personal history with the brand. “I used to work when I was at college unpacking boxes of Supreme at a company in London that distributed it when it was just starting out, so it’s something I’ve known all along in my life.”

Unlike prior Supreme collabs, this one will not be available at Supreme’s brick-and-mortar stores or online. The limited, one-off collab will be sold exclusively through Louis Vuitton stores later this year. Jones said the line designed with Supreme would go on sale at select Vuitton stores on July 17, but would probably also be available in temporary locations. “We’ll probably make separate stores in areas where both of them are popular,” he said.

Undeniably, the collaboration is somewhat surprising given Louis Vuitton’s highly protective approach when it comes to intellectual property ("IP"). As indicated by its many infringement-related lawsuits (and the notorious cease and desist letter that LV sent Supreme almost 20 year ago), Louis Vuitton very clearly does not take kindly to others – oftentimes even those within its own ranks (remember the alleged fight that former creative director Marc Jacobs had to wage in order to “deface” the brand’s monogram canvas with Stephen Sprouse’s neon graffiti) – interfering with its IP.

But Louis Vuitton - the world's most valuable luxury brand - is not your run of the mill design house and so, it follows that this would never be your average collaboration. Just as was the case with Louis Vuitton's previous collaborative projects, the Supreme one will be closely monitored, enabling the fashion house to benefit from the partnership while maintaining complete control over the variables. (The goods will be sold only through Louis Vuitton owned and operated stores, for instance). In this way, the collaboration is not all that surprising; it is certainly less surprising than if the roles were reversed and Supreme was making and selling products using the Louis Vuitton logo.

The question that still remains, though: Why? The reviews sure seem to make it seem like a bad move. The New York Times' Guy Trebly, for instance, wrote the following: "Nothing is more lethal to cred than a sellout. You may think, in the case of the Louis Vuitton collaboration with Supreme, presented under a tent at the Palais Royal on Thursday, the only victim would be Supreme, the street-style label with a rabid fan base and seemingly bulletproof cool ... Both parties appeared to take a hit in the fall 2017 collection presented by the designer Kim Jones. It was the fashion version of a murder-suicide."

Well, chances are, Louis Vuitton wants to tap – for a season or so – into the wild dedication and rabid willingness to spend that is consistently displayed by Supreme fans. These are the individuals that line up outside of the brand’s New York stores or wait with baited breath on its website once a week to “cop new shit.” They are the ones who are not interested in - let alone swayed by - critical reception of the collection. They are the epitome of a cult audience.

In this way, the collab is an easy opportunity for Louis Vuitton to sell and judging by Supreme fans, any garments and accessories it shows will sell out regardless of their prices. (Does this suggest that Louis Vuitton's current bottom line is not as stunning as it would like? Maybe. It is a difficult climate for luxury brands, after all).

Moreover, the collaboration presents Louis Vuitton with an opportunity to up its cool factor, particularly among millennials – the demographic with which every brand is consistently hoping to find favor. With this in mind, it seems that Louis Vuitton has identified a potential goldmine in this potential collaboration if it is handled properly.

As for what Supreme gets out of this, the brand gets a hefty paycheck from Louis Vuitton (in exchange for allowing the company to use its trademarks) and some high fashion bragging rights, as well.
